Bipolar disorder, depression and mood disorders, are conditions that affect mental states, making the individual’s mood swing from one extreme to another. People suffering from these conditions usually go through phases of depression during which they feel sad and lethargic as well as episodes of hyperactivity, demonstrating bursts of manic behaviour.

Unlike simple mood swings, each extreme episode of bipolar disorder can last for several weeks (or even longer), and some people may not feel “normal” very often.

Patients may initially be diagnosed with clinical depression before they have a manic episode (sometimes years later), after which you may be diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
